![]() I experienced a lot of connection issues and a few laggy matches. This being a beta, there are still quite a few problems that need to be ironed out. It certainly has that addictive "just one more game" appeal. Personally, I don't think it's quite finessed enough to match up to Rocket League's brand of pure gameplay but there are definitely plenty of favourable similarities between the two. These attributes (along with its sports mash-up concept) have led some critics to hail Disc Jam as the next Rocket League. It's one of those "easy to pick up, hard to master" types of games and it's still enjoyable even if you get defeated. Some of the advanced training techniques take a lot of practice to masterĪlthough there is quite a bit to get to grips with, you can still have a lot of fun before perfecting all of the techniques. You'll also need to practice the art of timing your button taps in order to infuse your shots with added power and speed. On top of the curl and bounce shots, you're also able to lob, slide, and use a powerful super shot and a shield that can quickly deflect the disc back onto the other side of the court. It's recommended that you go through training first because there are quite a lot of different moves and abilities to learn. The beta features one-on-one and doubles modes as well as basic and advanced training. The longer a rally goes on, the more points there are to play for making for some thrilling, heart-in-mouth moments. You score points by either flinging the disc past your opponent or making it land on their side of the court. Instead of a ball, you throw a disc (surprisingly) that can be curled or bounced off walls at tremendous speeds. □ There's no better way to celebrate a point than a synchronised butt-slapĭisc Jam can best be described as a frantic combination of air hockey and tennis with a load of special moves thrown in for good measure. │ Nothing causes more disappointment than hype so at Video Chums, we avoid hyping games prior to playing them for ourselves. In the following round of builds, I'll start thinking about preamps, pots, wiring a rod and disc in parallel, multiple disc locations, perhaps even active pickups and magnets, and all the other stuff I've been reading about. If I'm going to buy a bunch more and start building more of these as a hobby (which I most certainly am, because I love it so far), I want to make a more educated guess when I buy the next batch. However, I don't recall what the specs were on those first piezo discs I bought, and I may have just made a lucky guess when I bought them. I'm just wondering if there is any sort of general guidance for a quick build that sounds kind of cool when I plug it in in my living room to show a friend or two.įinal note: I have built one CBG with a simple single disc inside-the-box pickup and installed pickups in an acoustic guitar and in a ukulele. Q: In a very general sense, what is the optimal resonant frequency for a single disc piezo pickup to be mounted inside the box of a very simple cigar box guitar? So I have a very basic, bottom line type of question: Much of it was over my head as a beginner, and I've had a hard time finding a rough rule of thumb answer to a more fundamental question about resonant frequency. I have read several discussions and articles about resonant frequency, many of them going pretty deep into the science/engineering of piezoelectrics. ![]() ![]() ![]() LuluBox - Allow you to unlock all skin of FreeFire. In this case the internal conversion is more probable. ![]() It can proceed to the ground state by emitting a 279.190 keV gamma ray, or by internal conversion. It is also not the same as beta decay, since the emitted electron was previously one of the orbital electrons, whereas the electron in beta decay is produced by the decay of a neutron.Īn example used by Krane is that of 203Hg, which decays to 203Tl by beta emission, leaving the 203Tl in an electromagnetically excited state. This process is not the same as emitting a gamma ray which knocks an electron out of the atom. Sometimes the multipole electric fields of the nucleus interact with orbital electrons with enough energy to eject them from the atom. Internal conversion is another electromagnetic process which can occur in the nucleus and which competes with gamma emission. An example of this pattern is seen with silver isotopes, with two stable isotopes plus one of lower mass which decays by electron capture and one of heavier mass which decays by beta emission.Īn important example of electron capture decay is that of potassium-40 since it forms the basis for the potassium-argon mineral dating process. In the middle range of the periodic table, those isotopes which are lighter than the most stable isotopes tend to decay by electron capture, and those heavier decay by negative beta decay. The process leaves a vacancy in the electron energy level from which the electron came, and that vacancy is either filled by the dropping down of a higher-level electron with the emission of an X-ray or by the ejection of an outer electron in a process called the Auger effect.Įlectron capture is a process which involves the weak interaction and can be represented by a Feynman diagram. The capture of the electron by a proton in the nucleus is accompanied by the emission of a neutrino. The electron orbit radii are tens of thousands of times the diameter of the nucleus.Ī typical example is the decay of beryllium 7 4 Be + 0 -1 e → 7 3 Li + ν This is a schematic that grossly distorts the picture relative to a scale model of the atom. Most commonly, it is a K-shell electron which is captured, and this is referred to as K-capture. This is a process which competes with positron emission and has the same effect on the atomic number. ![]() A parent nucleus may capture one of its orbital electrons and emit a neutrino. Internal conversion is the use of electromagnetic energy from the nucleus to expel an orbital electron from the atom.Įlectron capture is one form of radioactivity. They both show a characteristic energy spectrum because of the emission of a neutrino or antineutrino. Positron or positive beta decay: Positron emission is called beta decay because the characteristics of electron or positron decay are similar. This is exhibited in the potassium-argon decay. While the most common types of radioactive decay are by alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, several other varieties of radioactivity occur:Įlectron capture: A parent nucleus may capture one of its own electrons and emit a neutrino. Gamma radiation is the most useful type of radiation for medical purposes, but at the same time it is the most dangerous because of its ability to penetrate large thicknesses of material. Most gamma rays are somewhat higher in energy than x-rays and therefore are very penetrating. It is distinguished from x-rays only by the fact that it comes from the nucleus. Gamma radioactivity is composed of electromagnetic rays. ![]() ![]() Lisa Schwartz is best known for her Youtube channel, on which she currently has over 2.2 million subscribers.
